To the right on the path nearest you is the traveler, the dancer, skipping like you had done on the Path of Inspiration. You look for the familiar hopâ¦skipâ¦hop, but she seems to be doing something different. It is as though she was repeating a few distinct steps over and over again. First, she would step forwards on her right foot, then bring forward her left while reaching her arms towards the sky. Holding the pose, she struggles for balance â the ground looks very uneven. She tries the step again, better this time; then better the next. Next, she follows her bent elbow as she turns to the right, carefully negotiating a full circle. Stopping, she looks very pleased with herself. Next, her arms stretch upward as if pleading with the heavens, then she draws her hands down softly and lays them gently across her heart. Now she links all three moves together, and again she looks very pleased. Suddenly, she kneels on the ground, tilting her head up toward the sky and stays there, swaying as if enraptured. She holds the pose for several seconds.
Finally, she stands up with both arms outstretched to her sides, turning right and then left â as though she were surveying everything around her. At last she returns to a standstill and seems to bow a Namaste. She repeats the same movement sequence over and over for a very long time.
This is not skipping; this appears to be the steps of a dance, carefully sequenced and repeated over and over until each movement flows smoothly, perfectly, into one another until it looks easy and natural.
âAre you dancing?â you ask as you try to catch her during a moment of stillness.
âThis is the Dance of Inspiration. I have been learning to master it for quite some time,â she gladly answers. âItâs very hard to go further into the Quagmire unless you can dance with inspiration, so I am practicing until I can do it easily. My Grand Mystery calls loudly, and I know that this is the next step in my travels.â
Thanking her, and offering gratitude for her candid answer, you return to the tree root, your âBench of Reflection,â to give this answer some thought. What does dancing have to with a Grand Mystery? On the other hand, you did try a jig on the Path of Inspiration.
